Squabbles between the Cricket Kenya and the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association have seen the inaugural Afro T20 Cricket league being hosted in Kampala.
The initial plan was to have the competition staged in Kenya but due to lack of commitment by the Cricket Kenya to work closely with the organisers and their differences with NPCA saw the competition move to Uganda.
The competition starts on December 8-24.
Top players from different nations will grace the competition whose model dates the shape of the Indian Premier League.
Eight teams will be in participation among them Roaring Lions, Charging Leopards, Mighty Rhinos, Striking Panthers, Hippo Warriors, Raging Bulls, Royal Elephants and Rising Zebras. Each team plays seven games with the top two in each group moving to the semi finals.
According to organisers, the winning team will take home US Dollars 50,000 with the runners up pocketing US Dollars 25,000 and third placed side US Dollars 10,000. Each man of the match will get US Dollars 300.
Among the top players to grace the competition will be Navin Stewart and Dauza Hyatt from West Indies, Abdul Shakoor from the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed Asif from Pakistan and Malinga Bandara from Sri Lanka. Kenya will have Shem Ngoche, Elijah Otieno, Nehemiah Odhiambo, Emmanuel Bundi, Lucan Ndadason, Bilal Habib, Rakep Patel, Dominic Wesonga, Gagandep Singh, Irfan Karim and Gurdeep Singh.
The tournament an investment of over US Dollars 2 Million will be broadcast on Neo Sports in India and PTV in Pakistan with a local partner yet to be finalized plus another broadcast partner in Dubai.
All franchise teams have been assigned Ugandan captains and the list of team coaches is yet to be finalized.
