Gor Mahia returned to the summit of the Kenyan Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Nakumatt on Sunday at the Nyayo Stadium.
Goals by Godfrey Walusimbi and George Odhiambo “Blackberry” sealed the victory for Gor Mahia who now have 31points, one ahead of Tusker who played to a one all draw with Posta Rangers.
It was the first league game for new Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr who made several changes in the starting line up. Missing from the starting line up was goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch who was replaced by Fredrick Onyango, Godfrey Walusimbi started in the left fullback role while Joash Onyango was in the defensive midfield where Ernest Wendo usually plays. Newcomer Bonface Omondi was also given a start in the right flank.
It was Walusimbi who opened the scores with a curling free kick in the eighth minute as K’Ogalo defended that lead until the 90th when Odhiambo raced from deep in the Gor half to plant the ball past his former team mate Jairus Adira.
Nakumatt had two chances that was saved off the line by Walusimbi in the 85th and 90th minutes.
Earlier Ebrima Sanneh put Sharks ahead in the 49th minute with a free header in their game against Zoo Jericho at the same venue.
But Zoo were to respond 20 minutes later when Danson Namasakha who had come in for Kepha Ondati equalised with just his first touch in the 69th minute.
In Meru, Posta Rangers too the lead over Tusker in the 7th minute through Dennis Mukaisi but Tusker were to equalise in the 43rd through Bonface Muchiri.
