Defending champions Tusker have a chance to climb to the summit of the Kenyan Premier league table if they beat Western Stima on Friday in Kisumu.
The champions who are still reeling from their loss to Bandari in their last game are equal on points with leaders Gor Mahia but with an inferior goal difference. Both have 28 points.
But with Gor Mahia out of action until next week, Tusker can muscle their way back to the top even with a point.
They are definitely the favourites against a Western Stima side that has struggled throughout the season and are perched at the bottom of the table with 11 points having only won twice.
This is one of the two matches to be played on Friday with the other being between Posta Rangers and Nzoia United at Ruaraka.
Tusker coach George Nsimbe knows the importance of winning this game.
“We must return to winning ways and continue piling pressure on the leaders. We are equal on points but if we drop any points now, we will have given them the advantage,” Nsimbe said.
Posta Rangers with 26 points can seize the chance to go on top if Tusker fall to Stima.
Rangers are enjoying a fine run having lost only once and remain in contention for the league title though the season is still far from over.
“We will do our best to win the game,” Rangers coach Sammy Omollo said.
Five more matches will be played on Saturday with Bandari hosting AFC Leopards at Mbaraki, kariobangi Sharks taking on kakamega Homeboyz in Machakos, Nakumatt facing off with Ulinzi Stars in Ruaraka which will also host the game between Mathare United and Sony Sugar while in Thika United will be at home against Sofapaka.
