Gor Mahia are expected to name Briton Dylan Kerr as the next coach after the club made contact with the former Simba Sports club coach on Wednesday.
The 15 time Kenya champions had identified either Kerr or Italian Stephano Maccoppi but by Wednesday evening it all seemed the job will go to Kerr.
Gor Mahia confirmed they had talked with Kerr who was excited to come to Kenya and had also agreed terms though they were also buying time to talk to Maccoppi and compare their demands.
However, they could not get through to the Italian and all indications are that Kerr will be the man to succeed Brazilian Jose Marcello Ferreira Ze Maria who quit the head coach position early June.
Gor Mahia assistant coach Ronald Ngala said the announcing of the new coach will be done by Friday this week once they have finalised negotiations.
“We have zeroed on either Kerr or Maccoppi depending on who is available to take over the role immediately and who is affordable,” said Ngala.
“Our view is to have the new coach as soon as possible so that he can train with the team before the high profile friendly against Everton on July 13,” stated Ngala.
The Briton who has previously coached Simba in 2015 is currently the coach of Chesterfield Under 18 side.
“Kerr is ready and willing to come. He has stated his price which is within our budget,” Ngala said.
Kerr played as a defender for Sheffield United, Leeds United and Reading among other several English clubs. The 50 years old Malta born has a 13 years coaching experience, in United States, Scotland, South Africa and in Tanzania where he coached giants Simba SC in 2015-2016 season.
The 55 year old Italian Maccoppi Stefano has worked lower division sides. He was born in Milan and played for Italian Serie B sides Piacenza and Bari. He has coached Piacenza youth side and has also worked with Sampdoria, Spezia and Swiss side Sion.
The Gor coaching post fell vacant following the resignation of Brazillian Jose Marcello Ferreira early last month. Assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno has been in charge of the squad over the last two matches in which Gor has lost 2-0 to Sofapaka and drawn 2-2 with Ulinzi Stars.
