Kenya National Under 20 Rugby side beat Zimbabwe 34-24 in the Africa Under 20 championships in Antananaravivo, Madagascar on Thursday afternoon.
The Kenya team nicknamed Chipu led 20-17 at the interval before coming back strongly to claim the match.
Chipu’s try scorers were Joshua Macharia, Steve Keter, William Diffu and Michael Kimwele with Henry Ayah adding four conversions and two penalties.
Head Coach Paul Odera, said, “Our defensive system held under the pressure. Our tackle technique was good on most occasions and the confidence to attack from deep in our half got us two tries.”
The result sees Chipu through to the final where the winner of the second clash between Namibia and Madagascar awaits them.
Going into the game, Odera had said: “Preparations have been good in terms of the fact that we were able to start earlier. We are pleased that many of the players have come through from the clubs without injury. We are very keen to see if we can get a positive result against Zimbabwe and get into the final.”
That result came his way and now the biggest challenge will be for him to see his side go past eith Namibia who he has described as the team to watch or hosts Madagascar.
The final will be played on Sunday.
